Our house on Maui faced east, giving us a solid wall of trade winds
blowing through the windows (that's another story), as
well as remarkable sunrises. No, we were on the "wrong" side of
the island to see the famous sunsets, but the sunrises more than
made up for that. We both worked, so we were up early
pretty much every day. (We eventually got over to the other side
of the island at the right time to
photograph some very nice Maui sunsets.)
Starting with our move-in in 1999, we began to capture these remarkable scenes from our lanai (balcony), first using a film camera, and then moving on to our first digital camera, a Sony Mavica. Point-and-shoot cameras followed: Kodak DX6490, Minolta S414, Nikon L12, etc. Later, we moved on to more advanced digital cameras, including Nikon DSLR's (D50 and D80).
