We found out that the Trinity site was only open to the public twice a year, and the date was coming up. So we fired up the motorhome, and stopped off in Socorro, New Mexico, to await the opening. The test site is on a large weapon testing range (White Sands), and you have to go through serious security to drive in. No stopping along the way, just out to the test site, see the remains, and some displays, and then back out again.
It is a sobering site, but there really isn't much to see: sand, mountains, some monuments, and photos. There used to be "glass" created from the desert sand by the detonation, but that either is gone, or you are forbidden to remove it.
