Views of Bus Trip Between Queenstown and Christchurch from Our 2001 Trip to New Zealand

We visited New Zealand in 2001, and were blown away by the beauty of the land, as well as the friendliness of the people.

After arriving by air in Auckland, our hosts suggested a side trip to the South Island. We signed up for a tour and were happy that we did. The tour provided hotels and all travel connections. We were on our own for sightseeing and entertainment.

Queenstown is a beautiful setting around a lovely lake. We were there just as skiing season was about to start. The town was full of skiers, just waiting for the slopes to open.

The tour finished with a bus trip to Christchurch (the subject of this page). After the bus trip, rather than fly back to Auckland, we opted to rent a car and see more of the South Island.

We also enjoyed the sights of Christchurch during our stay. Note that a major earthquake devastated Christchurch in 2011, destroying many of the beautiful buildings we had seen in 2001. (During a revisit in 2018, we saw just how massive the destruction had been.)
