We visited New Zealand in 2001, and were blown away by the beauty of the land, as well as the friendliness of the people.
After arriving by air in Auckland, our hosts suggested a side trip to the South Island. We signed up for a tour and were happy that we did. The tour provided hotels and all travel connections. We were on our own for sightseeing and entertainment.
At the end of the tour, we decided to rent a car, and after visiting the South Island, we took the ferry across to North Island. We drove all the way to Bay of Islands and spent a few days.
During that time, we took the 'Cream Trip' a boat trip that visited several of the beautiful islands in this area. After our stay in the north, we returned the car to Auckland. During our short stay there, Bob wanted to see a live Kauri tree (quite a rarity these days). After a long, scenic drive, we did indeed get to see 'Bobs' tree. After all that excitement, we flew home to Maui.
