We were able to enjoy a ride on the scenic and historic
Cumbres and Toltec Railroad in 2015. The rail line runs between
Antonito, Colorado and Chama, New Mexico. The train runs over a
10,000 foot pass, and the scenery is remarkable.
The steam locomotives are original, and run on coal.
The day after our wonderful ride, we drove to the crossings and other track areas, and joined a large group of photographers taking pictures as the train passed. Our previous ride used only one steam locomotive, but the next day was a much larger excursion train, so it was a true "double-header" run.
